This article will walk you through the steps to set up your RaiseDonors and Google Analytics 4 (GA4) integration.
Gather Details from GA4
To start, you will need to collect two pieces of information from your GA4 account:
- Your Account ID (aka Measurement ID) AND
- Your API Secret
Here is where in GA4 you can locate those two things.
Account ID or Measurement ID
Go to the Admin link in the left navigation menu. From there, click on Data Streams.
From Data Streams, click on your data stream. This will expand a view like this where you can easily copy your measurement ID.
API Secret
Scroll down further on that same view as above. You will see a menu item for “Measurement Protocol API secrets”. Click on it.
There, you will either create or use on of your existing API secrets. Copy that value.
Enter the Details in RaiseDonors
Now that you have the two pieces of information you need, hop on over to RaiseDonors.
Click on System Settings from the left-hand navigation bar. From System Settings, click “Integrations” from the menu. From the Integrations page, click on Google Analytics.
You’ll see a screen to enter your Measurement ID and your API secret. Once you’ve done that, simple switch the “Active” toggle on and then hit “Save Changes”. And that’s it!
All you need to do now is wait for your data to flow into Google Analytics.
How Do I View my Events?
Once your data starts trickling in, you will have access to a number of reports in GA4. One particularly useful one is your Events report. This can be found by clicking the Reports tab in the left-hand navigation bar and then clicking “Examine User Behavior” then “Events.” Scroll down to see a table of Events data.
Events that will be tracked include page views, donation form starts, clicks, purchases, and more.
