Tracking the source of a gift is imperative to be able to view the success of different fundraising asks. Using Segments and Campaigns strategically and consistently will give your team a wealth of knowledge regarding successful asks, donor insights, and donor trends.
Note: For organizations using RaiseDonors and Virtuous CRM as a paired solution, the Campaigns and Segments created in RaiseDonors can sync to Virtuous. This means you will not need to duplicate these items into Virtuous but they will be created via the integration.
How to Use Campaigns
Campaigns may describe a coordinated outreach effort -- think “Fall Membership Drive” or “New Library Capital Campaign” -- or they may simply be a way to capture your annual fundraising efforts. Essentially, Campaigns can be used to structure your fundraising efforts into clear categories for tracking and reporting purposes.
How to Use Segments
Segments will be used to define the different audiences you are targeting and tracking. When creating a Segment in RaiseDonors, there are two required fields, "Segment Name" and "Segment Code".
Segment Names do not have to be unique and in most cases, they won't be. Typical Segments may be along the lines of "Major Donors" "Non Donors" or "Recurring Donors".
Segment Codes MUST be unique. RaiseDonors will not allow you to create a Segment Code that already exists.
Reviewing Progress at a Glance
To quickly view the progress of your Campaigns and Segments, the Dashboard will be a great first stop. If you scroll down a bit on your main Dashboard, you will see two widgets displaying Campaign and Segment performance.
Giving In Top 5 Campaigns
This will display the 5 Campaigns with the most giving during the designated period in the top right corner of the page.
