In Raise, every donor can receive personalized ask amounts on a donation page, even if they’ve never given before. Giving Pages and Forms can be configured to include Responsive Ask Arrays, which automatically present each supporter with the optimal suggested Gift amounts—whether Raise recognizes the donor or not. This article covers how Responsive Ask Arrays work and how to configure them on a donation page.
How Does It Work?
Responsive Ask Arrays customize the Gift Array amounts for both known and unknown donors, but the criteria the amounts are based on is different.
Known Donors
For organizations using Virtuous CRM+, Raise identifies known donors through the Responsive Listener and connects them with existing Contact records in CRM+. When this connection is established, Virtuous Raise uses all CRM+ data from an existing donor to customize the Gift array options on a Form.
For known donors, Responsive Ask Arrays customize the suggested amount based on prior giving habits identified from CRM+. The options to base ask amounts on include:
- Virtuous Suggested Amount: The recommended Gift Ask calculated by CRM+ for each Contact. This is visible in the upper right when viewing a Contact record IN CRM+.
- Average Gift Amount: The average size of a Contact's Gifts, based on their life-to-date giving history.
- Last Gift Amount: The same Gift amount as the Contact’s most recent Gift in CRM+.
Unknown Donors
If a donor is unknown, Raise uses the following donor criteria to build the Responsive Ask Array options instead:
- Location: Using zip code, region, and cost-of-living approximations helps determine appropriate Ask amounts.
- Device Type: Understanding whether the donor is using mobile vs desktop to give is considered for expected Gift size.
- Browser Type: This helps infer demographics and behavior patterns.
- Time of Day: Considering daytime workplace giving vs. late-night browsing can change array options.
- Organization-Level Giving Intelligence: Using typical giving behaviors from your entire donorbase, like median one-time and Recurring Gift size, will influence the Ask amounts.
These criteria build Ask Array options that better match giving capacity tailored to each new donor. If a user is unknown and they make a donation via a Raise Form, then that user will be linked to a Virtuous CRM+ Contact record. So, the next time the same donor visits your donation page, they will see a Responsive Ask Array based on their previous donation.
How Do I Enable Responsive Ask Arrays?
To enable Responsive Ask Arrays on your Form, select the Donation Block in the Builder. To the right, a menu will open to configure the Settings. Select either Gift Array and Custom Amount or just Gift Array from the Display options dropdown.
Below, toggle on Use Responsive Ask Arrays.
Then, choose what Array amounts are based on for known donors: Virtuous Suggested Amount, Average Gift Amount, or Last Gift Amount. Now, configure your Multipliers. For example, if a donor has a Suggested Amount of $50 and you enter a 2X multiplier, the amount shown to them would be $100.
Use Preview Smart Gift Array to view how different Gift amounts are calculated from the multipliers. Select + Add Smart Gift Multiplier to add more values and use the grab handles to rearrange them. Or, if you want a specific amount defaulted when the donor views the Form, press the star icon next to the value.
And that’s it! Once your Giving Form is live, Responsive Ask Arrays will display relevant ask amounts to all donors who visit. Click here to learn more about building your Giving Form.
