Have it Your Way
Even something fantastic (like your favorite fundraising software) can get even better when you have the ability to customize. Making something your own isn’t just for hamburgers and dorm rooms, it can be the key to personalizing your donor experiences and learning more about your supporters.
And now, you can customize your pages and forms by including custom fields!
Users with Full Access or with “View and Edit” permission on Pages Premiums, Campaigns, and Emails can create new Custom Fields from the Settings page in RaiseDonors.
Once created, it’s easy to add a custom field to any form or page.
You can even choose to make fields required, or hide them and add a default value that will be captured with every submission.
BUT WAIT…THERE’S MORE!
As a bonus for Virtuous CRM users, we’ve included additional sync features and controls to make things as smooth and seamless as…well…something really flat. (There’s no common metaphor for that, is there?)
When adding a custom field to a form or page, you’ll be able to select any custom field created in RaiseDonors OR a Contact, Individual, or Gift custom field created in Virtuous. How cool is that? (As cool as the other side of the pillow—there IS a good simile for that!) Once you select a Virtuous custom field, you’ll see it listed on the custom fields page in RaiseDonors, with the “Source” listed as “Virtuous CRM.” Any fields created in RaiseDonors will show “RaiseDonors” as the source (because anything else would be a little weird).
But like kitchen doors in 80’s sitcoms, a sync goes both ways. So, when creating a custom field in RaiseDonors, you’ll see the option to create the same field in Virtuous, so data can be sent through with gift transactions, or to keep your super secret special field just between you and RaiseDonors.
Now, this is all great stuff…but we couldn’t stop there! (Well, we could, but we wouldn’t.)
We’ve also added support for syncing Custom Collections from Virtuous!
Yes, that’s right…you can also choose a Custom Collection from Virtuous to include in a form. The data will be visible in RaiseDonors and synced to Virtuous.
Whew! That’s a lot!
Excited? Of course you are! You can check out this article for more on working with custom fields.
Would You Like Fees With That?
(Seems we have a fast-food theme going this month. Apologies for making anyone hungry.)
Offering donors the option to cover costs is a great way to ensure their full gift can be applied to your programming. But sometimes, there is a need to cover more than just the card processing fees. For those cases, we’ve added a new checkbox option that can be enabled on the processing fees element, giving donors the ability to cover additional admin fees.
When setting up the checkbox, you’ll have the ability to select a specific project for admin fees, set the percentage amount, and more. Check it out in the form builder today!
More Customization With URL Parameters
(There is not good fast-food pun for “URL parameters,” sorry.)
Since customization and personalization and kind of a theme this month, we’ve also added support for URL parameters to be included when redirecting donors to your own custom thank-you page on your website. This means that, instead of a generic “Thanks for your gift” message, you can say, “Delores, thank you for your generous $75 contribution!” You can even include the frequency of Kenneth’s donation (this cultural reference is only for those of a certain age).
Just select the values you’d like to incorporate as merge fields and then you can personalize away!
…And the Rest
This update also includes a number of other fixes, tweaks, minor modifications, and assorted nudges. Here’s a roundup of other items released over the last month:
- We’ve improved Project syncing between Virtuous and RaiseDonors, ensuring that updates to Projects are carried over between systems. Because it’s handy when your donation platform and your CRM play nicely together. Bulk updates to Projects from a Virtuous query, however, will not send bulk updates to RaiseDonors.
- More personalization! In the design settings, you can now set a custom favicon image for your pages. Make it yours, and let your donors know which tab among their 87 open tabs is the important one!
- OK, this might sound a bit nerdy 🤓. We’ve introduced dynamic component loading for donation pages (”Dynamic Component Loading,” by the way, would be a great name for a band). What this means is that, for users on slower internet connections, the important elements of each page will load faster, with other content loading more slowly, as opposed to waiting for everything all at once. Think of it like the difference between trying to load an entire bookshelf into a small hatchback, vs loading in a flat-packed box from Ikea and assembling it at home. (Except without the allen wrench and confusing assembly instructions.)
- An unfortunate part of online transaction processing is dealing with scammers and card spinning attacks. As part of our continuing effort to combat the effects of these behaviors, we’ve modified our process to ensure that donor records will not be created until transactions are successful. This helps avoid having fraudulent donor records in your system.
- We’ve made some improvements to ensure that all changes to recurring gifts in RaiseDonors will be processed and synced to Virtuous. As they should be.
- Some users reported an error when attempting to update recurring gifts in the Donor Portal. Our team has found the offending code and made sure it will not interfere with any more updates in the Portal.
- When switching between a one-time and recurring gift array, the default value was not always selected correctly. We’ve made sure that defaults will stay defaults, no matter how many times you toggle.
- More customization! More sync settings! Now, when integrating with Virtuous, you’ll see the option to send Gifts as receipted or leave the Receipt Date blank so receipts can be sent from Virtuous. You choose!
- We’ve made a few tweaks to ensure that Venmo will be visible as a payment option on mobile devices. It was a little shy before.
- When CSS classes collide…we’ve made some fixes to ensure that CSS rendering for RaiseDonors forms will not interfere with the CSS of your web pages. If you’re not sure what all this means, then consider yourself lucky!
- Google UTM codes were not being captured correctly in RaiseDonors (you know those UTM parameters, always longing to be free). We’ve tamed them a bit and made sure they will stay put from now on.
- Virtual Terminal pages were not a fan of gifts over $1,000. Since we’ve been told that bigger gifts are good for fundraising, we’ve made sure that Virtual Terminal pages can process larger amounts without breaking a sweat.
- Some offline Gifts from Virtuous were not displaying in the Donor Portal as expected. We’ve made sure these Gift know they are expected to show up and they have promised to do so.
- We’ve corrected an issue where payment methods could not be updated in the Donor Portal. Because why not make it easier to keep recurring payments flowing?
- The Next Payment Date was not displaying correctly for recurring Gifts. We’ve found a bug a shooed it away to make sure these dates are displayed correctly now.
And that's the list! Phew! As always, if you have any questions about these or other features, feel free to contact our support team.
