Google UTM codes in RaiseDonors can help track your marketing campaign effectiveness by providing insights into donor behavior, which can optimize your fundraising strategies.
So, what exactly are UTM Codes?
Simply put, they are snippets of text added to the end of a URL to help track and monitor where your web traffic is coming from and how visitors interact with your content.
Note: The Google analytics integration must be enabled within RaiseDonors.
RaiseDonors pulls the following data from the URL:
- utm_campaign
- utm_source
- utm_medium
- utm_term
- utm_content
Steps for Adding UTM Codes
For Hosted Pages:
Navigate to the Fundraise page and create a Hosted Page.
Once you reach the publish step, you will be provided with a generated link.
Finally you will take that provided link and paste it into a web browser along with the UTM parameters.
Note: The line below can be copied and placed after your Giving page URLs:
?utm_source=source&utm_medium=medium&utm_campaign=campaign&utm_term=term
&utm_content=content
The key is to update the values in red before associating the link with the different marketing correspondences.
Like this:
https://raisedonors.givevirtuous.org/donate/year-start-campaign?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=Year_Start_Campaign&utm_term=Give&utm_content=Alumni
Once that link is tailored and hyperlinked in the desired places, it will begin tracking the information and the values will be captured within RaiseDonors as gifts start coming in.
For Embedded Forms:
Similar to Hosted Pages, navigate to the Fundraise page and create an Embedded Form.
After embedding the link to your web hosted page, follow the same process of adding and updating the UTM parameters to the giving page link.
Once gifts start coming in, the values from the UTM parameters will be tracked on the gift records if applicable.
On the All Gifts page in RaiseDonors, the option to filter by different UTM parameter codes are available.
Additionally, when downloading data, you will also see the options to export Google UTM codes with your other gift data.
