There may be times when a Donor contacts you about an incorrect donation or requests a refund if they made an error during the transaction or did not intend to give at this time. No problem! You can refund the Gift directly in RaiseDonors.
When a refund is processed in RaiseDonors, the Virtuous integration will create a record of the refund in your CRM through a Reversing Transaction. A Reversing Transaction is a negative gift type used to counteract, or "reverse", a positive gift entry that is no longer valid for any number of reasons.
How do refunds sync to Virtuous?
The refunded gift will be pushed to the Virtuous Gift and Contact Import Tool like all other RD gifts. Read more about the Gift and Contact Import Tool here. It will display the Gift Type as Reversing Transaction and the Gift Amount will be the negative dollar amount of the original gift.
Once the batch of gifts that includes the Reversing Transaction is imported, you'll be able to see both transactions (the original and the refund) on the Contact Record.

Can I refund the gift in Stripe instead?
Technically, yes. You can refund a transaction directly in Stripe. However, we do not recommend issuing refunds in Stripe as it will not update the Transaction Status in RaiseDonors, nor will it update the Gift in Virtuous. Additionally, it is not advised to refund in Stripe because Stripe allows partial refunds which NOT supported in RaiseDonors. We recommend initiating all refunds in RaiseDonors.
