As part of using Raise to manage online giving, your donors have access to their Donor Portal where they can log in, view their giving history, manage their stored payment methods, and even update recurring donations. This article outlines the process of setting up your Donor Portal, the features available to a Raise user for Portal management, and an example of what the donor sees.
Enable The Donor Portal
Before you customize the Donor Portal, you need to activate it. To begin, navigate to Settings and then Donor Portal Settings.
At the top of this page, you see the URL for your organization that donors will follow to sign up for an account and access their portal. Under the General tab, toggle on the Donor Portal is active option.
Customize The Donor Portal
Once enabled, you need to configure options for how your Portal displays information to donors. Use the different tabs within the Donor Portal Settings to customize how your donors interact with the Portal.
General
Under the General tab, you have options for how to display Donation History and Recurring Gifts. Use the dropdown menu to select which of the Project and Page Information options you want to display. Use the preview of what the donor sees to the right. Select Do not display if you don’t want to show any of them.
In the Recurring Gifts section, you can configure how these schedules display to donors. You have similar selections for how Recurring Gifts display to donors (Project and Page Information) as with the overall Donation History with an additional option of Advanced Mode. If selected, four fields display below to configure: Recurring Gift Summary, Recurring Gift Summary (Projects with no metadata), Recurring Gift Detail, and Recurring Gift Detail (Projects with no metadata).
Here, you can include a summary and details about the Project the Recurring Gift is allocated toward. Use merge tokens in each box to connect these descriptions to a specific Project. This display option is useful for organizations that manage child sponsorships, as these types of Projects often require unique data for each one.
Custom Page Tab
Next, the Custom Page tab allows you to configure content and details for an additional custom page in the Donor Portal. This can be used to promote upcoming events, give additional insight into your mission, encourage a new Gift, etc.
Here, configure the following for a custom page:
- Page Position: What order do you wish to have the custom content presented in the menu?
- Page Title: What is the name of the page? This is what appears in the Portal menu.
- Page Content: What information do you want to communicate? You can include merge tokens, links, and HTML to make the content personalized for the donor.
Login Screen Content
The Login Screen Content tab allows you to customize the content donors see when they reach the Donor Portal login screen. This is helpful for new donors to give them an idea of what they can expect in the Portal, or for you to address any frequently asked questions about managing online donations.
Use the editor to add merge tokens, links, and HTML to make the content personalized.
Advanced
Under the Advanced tab, add any custom CSS or JavaScript to be injected into each page of the Donor Portal. CSS allows you to customize the branding and presentation of data in the Donor Portal. JavaScript allows you to track donor behavior, collect analysis, or push data into the Portal for your donors.
Keep in mind that any custom code entered here is not validated by the Virtuous Raise team, so we recommend you only configure this section if you have experience with CSS or JavaScript.
What the Donor Sees
When the donor logs into the Donor Portal, they’ll find the images and any information you configured in the Donor Portal Settings.
On the Your Profile tab, the donor sees and can modify the Contact Information stored in Raise for their record.
Under Giving History, the donor sees how you configured their recent giving, along with Project and Donation Page information and the option to resend the confirmation email.
Under the Recurring Gifts tab, the display options you configured show the donor their Recurring schedule information. The donor can always modify the amount, frequency, and next charge date or cancel the schedule altogether.
If you’ve included a Custom Page, the donor will see the additional tab (in the Page Position you chose) from the Portal menu to find your custom information.
And lastly, on the Contact Us tab, the donor can find your organization’s contact information and send an email to the email address listed under Organization Settings.
Once your Donor Portal is enabled and configured, it’s time to invite donors to register their accounts. Click here to learn more about inviting donors to use the Donor Portal.
